On the bright side, though, there’s a new developer team which stepped into CyanongenMod’s shoes and that team is Lineage OS. The new OS team didn’t waste any time and started releasing ROM builds for many smartphones. One of the ROMs released by LineageOS team was for the One Plus bestseller, One Plus One. OnePlus One users immediately took a liking to the new custom ROM launched by LineageOS for their smartphones According to the data shared by LineageOS, a total of 14,061 OnePlus One devices codenamed “bacon” have installed the new LineageOS ROM on their smartphones up to now. The second most popular smartphone users owning the Xiaomi Mi 5 codenamed “gemini,” followed by the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, also known as “kenzo” installed the LineageOS. LineageOS seems to be liked by One Plus One users presumably because the smartphone is no longer officially supported and runs Android Marshmallow as opposed to the latest version of Google’s operating system, Android 7 Nougat. On the other hand, it’s also worth noting that the OnePlus 3 is the fourth most popular device among LineageOS users despite receiving the official Android 7.0 Nougat update earlier this year. This could indicate that OnePlus may become the brand of choice for custom ROM enthusiasts following the retirement of the Nexus series.. Additionally, Lineage OS has announced that during the upcoming future over 80 new Lineage OS builds will be uploaded. Here are the smartphones that could get the new LineageOS Custom ROMs soon.

LineageOS team said that the new builds are being called Lineage and they are not that different from the CM ones. For example, Lineage OS’s builds use the same build number system that CyanogenMod used. For example Lineage OS 14.1 will stand for Android 7.1 Nougat while Lineage OS 13.0 for Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Additionally, the greatest thing about Lineage OS builds is that they don’t require users to wipe their device’s data when flashing the operating system. In fact, Lineage OS can be flashed straight over an already existing CM 14.1 or CM 13.0 ROM. LineageOS team has taken due care in making the flashing process easy for Android smartphone owners. The all new LineageOS accompanies its custom ROMs with a separate flashable zip file. The users can root their devices through the use of this separate zip file. The LineageOS team has announced that it’s going to post a new supported device on its official website every week and during that week a new specific build will be uploaded.
