https://youtu.be/XjxkPcM8EMk In a symbolic message to the new government meant to show the political class that the Romanian nation is watching, the crowd of some 250,000 people gathered in front of the government building in Bucharest lit up the night sky with their smartphones. The Romanian demonstration on Sunday night was the largest protest in the country since the 1989 revolution. For those unfamiliar, people in Romania were protesting against an executive order that would have allowed many top politicians to dodge criminal investigations and even avoid prison time. In an almost week-long protest, the general public was demanding for justice and the resignation of those responsible for issuing the order. Despite the rescinding of the order, protesters look firm to continue their fight to protect democracy in a country that’s been perforated with corruption since the ’89 revolution.
